Recently I had a quite long discussion with a group of so called Pro-photographers that were telling me to avoid the sun at all costs at a wedding, and that they actively sought out the shade of a building or trees etc, when i told them that they were talking rubbish the looks i got were a bit strange, i pointed out that i use the sun at most of my weddings ? (we are in the UK after all), probably not midday in july though. Just to prove them wrong here a few sun shots from last weekends wedding taken at 6pm in an open field using the camera in completey manual mode, since the sun screws most of the cameras function up, also the big kit was deployed for a couple, my sunbounce kit for the rest, if you dont like what you see then maybe i am wrong, but my bride and groom love them and so do I... comments below please.

top two are just using the sun in different parts of the frame for differing effects..

above is natural but with a kick of sunbounce and just allowing the warmth of the sun to flare out the lens slightly.

above and below are with natural light as is, then balancing flash with the ambient light to create this effect

Hi Karl, I really like the last best of all shown above. The one above that is also good to my eyes.
(10.05.09 @ 02:53 PM)Great work, MAlcolm.
Hi Karl, I do like the one above the best of this group. One above that is also good to me.
(10.05.09 @ 02:56 PM)love the foreground interest on the last one....i thought only amateurs shoot with the sun behind them
(10.05.09 @ 03:05 PM)I actively seek the shade - that's because I can't (yet) handle the sun in the ways you do, so I go for the safe option. I think there are no "wrong answers" and if you and your clients like the results, then your job is done! I love the lower two pics, by the way.
(10.06.09 @ 12:39 PM)Fabulous use of the sun and surroundings Karl. But hey, let's face it, you have the best shots no matter what!!
